Full Boat Servicing, Maintenance & Repairs

Servicing, fault finding and repairs across the whole boat, not just the motor.

A boat is a pile of different systems that all wear out at different rates, and it is usually the one you have forgotten about that leaves you sitting out there waiting for a tow. We look after the whole thing, not just the motor, so you actually know what shape your boat is in before summer starts.

What’s included

  • Annual and pre-season servicing to manufacturer schedules
  • Fault finding and diagnostics on engines and onboard systems
  • Fuel system servicing, filters, water separators and tank checks
  • Bilge pumps, deck wash, live bait tanks and plumbing repairs
  • Steering and control cable inspection, adjustment and replacement
  • Battery, charging and starting system testing
  • Pre-purchase inspections and condition reports
  • Safety gear checks including flares, lifejackets and EPIRB registration

What a full service covers

We start with the engine (oils, filters, plugs, impeller, anodes and gearbox oil) and then work through everything else that keeps the boat usable and safe. Batteries get tested under load, the charging circuit gets checked, the pumps get run, the steering and throttle cables get a look over, and we go around the hull and fittings for anything that has started to rattle loose.

You get a written summary of what was done and what we found, plus anything worth keeping an eye on. If something needs doing outside what you agreed to, you get a phone call first.

Repairs and fault finding

Intermittent faults are where experience really counts. Danny has usually seen the symptom before, whether it is a motor that dies under load, a charging system that never quite tops up, or a leak that only shows itself on the trailer. We find the actual cause instead of throwing parts at it until the problem goes away.

We work on outboards, sterndrives and inboard petrol and diesel engines, and we can get parts for most of the major brands.

How often should a boat be serviced?

Rough rule: every 100 hours of running or once a year, whichever comes first, and always before the first decent trip of the summer. Boats that sit around for months often need more work than boats that get used regularly, because fuel goes off, seals dry out and batteries sulphate.

If you have no idea when yours was last done, book it in for a look. It is a lot cheaper than a tow home.

Questions

Boat Servicing & Repairs: common questions

How much does a boat service cost?

It depends on the engine, the hours and what we find, so every job gets quoted on its own. Give Danny a call on 021 771 615 with the make, model and rough hours and he will give you a realistic range before you commit to anything.

How long will the boat be off the water?

A standard service is usually a day or two once it is in. Bigger repairs come down to how quickly parts turn up. You will get a realistic timeframe when you book it in, and a call if anything changes that.

Can you service my boat before I sell it?

Yes, and it is usually money well spent. A tidy boat with a current service record sells faster and for more. We do pre-purchase inspections too if you are the one buying.

What brands do you work on?

All the common outboard and sterndrive brands including Yamaha, Mercury, Suzuki, Honda, Evinrude, Volvo Penta and MerCruiser, plus most inboard petrol and diesel engines.

Getting started

One workshop for the whole boat

Engines, electronics, trailers, grooming and storage all happen in the same place, so jobs can be combined into one visit instead of three. Tell us what the boat is doing and we will tell you what it needs.
